Words of Protection from All Harm
Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and others narrated from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, may Allāh be pleased with him, that he said: “The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said:
There is not a slave who says every morning [before sunrise] and [every] late afternoon [before sunset]—
Bismillāhi-lladhī lā yaḍurru maʿa-smihi shayʾun fi-l-ʿarḍi wa lā fi-l-samāʾi wa huwa-l-Samīʿu al-ʿAlīmu
—three times, [except that] nothing would come to harm him.¹
Meaning:
[I seek refuge] in the name of Allāh, the One who, [when refuge is sought] with His name, nothing from the Heavens nor from the Earth can bring about harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
