Why Believers Enjoy Prayer

Shaikh Rabīʿ ibn Hādī Al-Madkhalī, may Allāh protect him, said:

A believer does not find [the prayer] heavy.

وَاسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى الْخَاشِعِينَ

And find support [in all matters] through patience [of all kinds] and prayer; indeed, [the prayer] no doubt [poses] a tremendous, [difficulty to all] but al-khāshiʿīn [the true believers who fear Allāh and submit to His commands]. (Al-Baqarah, 45)

So it’s heavy, difficult, and burdensome upon those whose hearts are diseased, upon the hypocrites, and upon a large number of sinful transgressors. [But], it is indeed, without doubt, easy for the true believers.

The believer does not find comfort, happiness, or peace of mind except through this prayer. Why? Because in this prayer, he is communicating privately with the Lord of all creation. When you stand before Allah—All-Great and All-High—you are engaging in private communication with Him. So this is a tremendous opportunity that Allah has given you to communicate with Him in private.
