Who Doesn’t Want Allah to Forgive Him?
The shaikh, Dr. Muḥammad ibn Ghālib Al-ʿUmarī, may Allāh protect him, said:
And it is upon them to forgive and overlook; would you not love Allāh to forgive you? (Al-Nūr, 22)
So whoever forgives [one who has wronged him, leaves off having him punished], and repairs [any lost feelings of affection for him in order to please Allāh], the reward [for his act of forgiveness] is upon Allāh. (Al-Shūrá, 40)
And those who swallow their anger and forgive people [who’ve wronged them or treated them poorly] (Āli ʿImrān, 134)
Take hold of these things that we are told strongly to do by our Lord—that’s better for you. And beware of those things that you’re told strongly to do by people—those things that call upon you to take revenge, pay evil back with evil, or wrongdoing with wrongdoing.
