Those Who Can’t Tell the Difference

The shaikh, Dr. Muḥammad ibn Ghālib Al-ʿUmarī, may Allāh protect him, said:

Whoever does not distinguish between the People of the Truth among the People of Islam—

Those who follow the Messenger, may his praises be raised high and may he be protected from all harm,

Who emulate the Companions, the great, noble ones (al-kirām),

Who hold on to the way of [every] eminent imām—

[Distinguishing them from] other than them from those in sectarian groups, people vile and deplorable;

And from those upon misguidance, tremendous and horrible;

Such a person has indeed passed judgment upon himself as being a person of weak insight

And upon the way he is going as being misguided and not right

Because the Truth is clear, shining, and sure

While Falsehood is a path that’s shaky and obscure.

It is only by Allāh that one attains His pleasure,

And guidance is for the ones who ask Him alone for that and no other.

The one whom Allāh guides, he is the one who has been rightly guided [to the Truth]; and those whom He leads astray, [leaving them to their own devices out of justice], then you will not find any to [guide them nor any to] come to their aid other than Allah. And on the Day of Resurrection, We will gather them together upon their faces, unable to see, speak, or hear a thing; their final resting place will be the Blazing Fire of Hell. Every time its flames settle, We increase the fire upon them, kindling and setting it ablaze in flames. (Al-Isrāʾ 97)
