The Rarest of Friends

The shaikh, Dr. Muḥammad ibn Ghālib Al-ʿUmarī, may Allāh protect him, said:

If you’re happy about having the affection of one who loves you from the People of the Truth while you and he are in agreement, be happy many, many times about his being fond of you while you and he are in disagreement.

For indeed, this [person] has wrestled with devils among mankind and jinn in order to maintain his fondness for you and to keep [that] love for you in [his] heart.

So his fondness [for you] is more truthful and his friendship, more reliable; and he’s of a good heart, of abundant intelligence.

So if [such a friend] were there [for you], don’t lose him, no matter what—his being there is from the rare, rare things [in life].
