A Simplified Explanation of Sūrah Al-Sharḥ from Al-Tafsīr Al-Muyassar

Al-Sharḥ
Verse 1
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ
Did we not, O Prophet, open your heart for you to the laws and practices of the religion [of Islām], calling to Allāh, and being endowed with noble traits of character;
Verse 2
وَوَضَعْنَا عَنْكَ وِزْرَكَ
and [did] We [not] take off, by that, the burden you had been carrying….
Verse 3
الَّذِي أَنْقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ
…that had been weighing down heavily on your back;
Verse 4
وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ
and [did] We [not] place you, with that which We have bestowed upon you of noble traits of character, in an exalted, high position?
Verse 5
فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
So do not let harm from your enemies turn you away from spreading the Message, for indeed there is, with [whatever] difficulty, a relief;
Verse 6
إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
indeed there is, with [that] difficulty, a relief.
Verse 7
فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانْصَبْ
So when you get free from matters pertaining to this life and its occupations, strive earnestly in worship….
Verse 8
وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَارْغَبْ
…and to your Lord alone direct your [intentions and humble] requests of that which is in His possession.
