Al-Ḍuḥá
Verse 1
Allāh swore by the time of broad daylight in the morning–and what is meant [by that] is all of daytime–
Verse 2
and [He swore] by the night when it settles upon creation and its darkness becomes intense.
And Allāh swears by whatever He wills of the things that He has created; as for creation, it is not allowed for them to swear by other than their Creator since swearing by other than Allāh is shirk–directing to other than Him anything that is only for Him.
Verse 3
Your Lord has not abandoned you, O Prophet, nor has He had [any] hatred toward you by delaying revelation [to] you;
Verse 4
and the Hereafter is certainly better for you than the present life;
Verse 5
and your Lord will certainly bestow on you [one day], O Prophet, of different kinds of good things that are provided in the Hereafter, and then you will be pleased with that.
Verse 6
Did He not find you earlier an orphan, your father having died while you were being carried in your mother’s womb, after which He gave you a place to stay, watched over you, and took care of you?
Verse 7
And [did He not] find you unaware of revelation, [religious laws], and īmān–faith [and all that it entails of belief, speech, and action]–after which He gave you knowledge of that which you had not known and [guided you to and] granted you the best of deeds?
Verse 8
And [did He not] find you poor, after which He sent you your provisions and enriched your soul with contentment and patience?
Verse 9
Then as far as orphans are concerned, do not mistreat them;
Verse 10
and as far as those who ask [of you] are concerned, do not drive them away [harshly], but rather give them food and take care of their needs;
Verse 11
and as to the good things your Lord has given you fully, speak of them.
