Sweetness of Dhikr and What Removes It

Imām Ibn Taimiyyah, may Allāh have mercy on him, said: “The heart was only created to remember Allāh, be He exalted for His perfection. That’s why one of the wise ones of old […] said:

Dhikr [remembrance of Allāh] is to the heart as nourishment is to the body, so just as the body finds no enjoyment from food when it’s sick, the heart, likewise, finds no sweetness in dhikr when it has love for the [life of this] world […].
