Parents’ vs. Wives’ Rights
Shaykh Abdullāh Al-Bukhārī

Question to Shaikh ʿAbdullāh Al-Bukhārī, may Allāh protect him:
This [person] is asking: are the rights of [a man’s] parents given precedence over the rights of [his] wife and children? Or are there some details to that?
Answer:
Give everyone who has rights their rights. Parents have huge rights upon you, [while] the wife and children, also, have huge rights upon you.
If there is [an unresolvable] conflict between a wife’s and a parental right, the parental right is given precedence, may Allāh bless you. Their right is given precedence over what? The wife’s–so long as there is no what in that? Oppression, injustice, or harm being caused without a [valid] reason in Islāmic law.
