A Simplified Explanation of Sūrah Al-Qāriʿah from Al-Tafsīr Al-Muyassar

Al-Qāriʿah

Verse 1

The Hour that pounds the hearts of Mankind with its terrors:

Verse 2

What is this pounding [Hour]?

Verse 3

And what will tell you about it?

Verse 4

On that day, people–in their great numbers, their dispersion, their movements–will be like scattered moths, [those] that fall, one after another, into fire.

Verse 5

And the mountains will be like wool, in [its] various colors, that has been teased out by hand, after which it becomes a fine dust and disappears.

Verse 6

Then as for one whose good deeds weighed heavier [on the Scale]….

Verse 7

…then he will be in a life of pleasure [and contentment] in Paradise.

Verse 8

And as for one whose good deeds were light [on the Scale] while his evil deeds weighed heavier….

Verse 9

…then he will take shelter in the [Pit of] Blazing Hellfire.

Verse 10

And what will make you realize, O Messenger, what this Pit is?

Verse 11

Indeed, it is a fire whose heat has been raised [to an extreme] by the fuel [set] upon it.
