A Simplified Explanation of Sūrah Al-Nās from Al-Tafsīr Al-Muyassar

Al-Nās
Verse 1
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
Say, O Messenger: I seek refuge and ask protection of the Lord of Mankind, the only One able to drive away the evil of the whispering devil;
Verse 2
مَلِكِ النَّاسِ
the Absolute Ruler [and Owner] of Mankind, the One dealing with all their affairs however He wills, the One [perfect and complete in Himself,] never in need of them;
Verse 3
إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ
the One [to be] worshipped by Mankind, other than Whom nothing is deserving of worship–
Verse 4
مِنْ شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ
from the harm of the devil that whispers [evil] when [one] is forgetful [or inattentive] and goes back into hiding when [one] remembers [or mentions] Allāh–
Verse 5
الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ
the [whispering devil] that propagates evil and doubts inside people’s chests….
Verse 6
مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ
…from among the devils of Jinn and Mankind.
