If You Want to Be Loved by Those You Mix With

The shaikh, Dr. Muḥammad ibn Ghālib Al-ʿUmarī, may Allāh protect him, said:

If you want to be loved by those you mix with, then be:

  • good company;
  • well-mannered and refined in speech;
  • generous in giving;
  • quick to forgive;
  • close in friendship and affection;
  • correct in [your] statements;

See them as having favors [over you], and [at the same time], overlook [their shortcomings]. [And be]:

  • at their service in times of need;
  • quick to [go to] them when [things feel] cold or distant [between you];
  • honest in advising;
  • sincere in loving.

And don’t [be one] to expect anything of that from them.
