If Only People’s Fear of Diseases in the Heart, [Mind, and Soul] Was like Their Fear of Diseases in the Body

Shaykh

Shaikh ʿAbd Allāh Al-Dhafīrī, may Allāh protect him, tweeted:

[Here’s] a [short,] summarized article in lieu of tens of articles, entitled: “If Only People’s Fear of Diseases in the Heart, [Mind, and Soul] Was like Their Fear of Diseases in the Body.” Your brother Ibrāhim Al-Tamīmī wrote it, may Allāh grant him a good reward.

Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

The diseases of the heart, [mind, and soul] are more difficult than [those] of the body because the utmost [that] diseases of the body [can do] is lead those suffering from them to death. As for diseases of the heart, [mind, and soul], they lead those suffering from them to eternal misery, and there is no cure for this [kind of] disease other than knowledge [of true Islam]. (Miftāḥ Dār Al-Saʿādah, vol. 1, p. 370.)

I [Ibrāhim Al-Tamīmī] say: Most people only fear diseases of the body. As for sicknesses of the heart, [mind, and soul], they don’t worry about them, [not anyone] apart from those to whom Allāh has been good out of mercy and compassion.

Because of that, if it were said to them, “Such-and-such country [or place] that you’re going to for tourism has a dangerous, contagious disease spreading there,” they would surely not go there, and they would surely stop their children from [going as well]!

At the same time, they don’t trouble themselves about what is in those countries of sicknesses of the heart, [mind, and soul], manifesting themselves in a corruption of beliefs, [morals,] and good character [in the form of] nudity and licentiousness, while at the same time [those people] admit the existence of those sicknesses of the heart [there]!

May Allāh have mercy on Ibn Shubrumah, [as] he said: “I find it strange how people hold back from [certain] foods out of fear of getting sick, while they don’t hold back from sins out of fear of the Fire!” (Al-Dhahabī, Siyar Aʿlām Al-Nubalāʾ, vol. 6, p. 348)

May Allāh make our [own] condition right again and the condition of [all] Muslims.

Written by your brother Ibrāhim Al-Tamīmī, may Allāh forgive him.
