Ibn Bāz: The Islamic Ruling on Buying Discount Cards or Subscriptions

Shaykh

Question:

In some stores and private clinics, cards are now commonly issued that–for those who want to subscribe to them at a certain yearly rate–offer card bearers some free [medical] check-ups throughout the year and some financial discounts on some other lab tests.

My question: is it allowed to issue those cards or get involved in transactions using them? May Allāh reward you with good.

Answer:

This action is not permissible [in Islam] due to what it contains of unknown [sales terms], gambling, and much uncertainty concerning its outcomes [in terms of loss or gain to one or both parties]. So it’s [Islamically] required to leave it, and Allāh is the One who grants all true success.
