Beware the Diversions from Our Purpose in Life

 وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ [الذاريات : ٥٦]

And I did not create jinn or mankind other than to worship Me [alone]. (Al-Dhāriyāt, 56)

Shaikh Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyá Al-Najmī, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

In this verse is that which teaches us that the creation of jinn and mankind was not for anything other than worship: Allāh created [His] slaves to worship Him [alone], and He promised them forgiveness and Paradise if they were to [do that] […].

And in this verse, there is an indication that the aim of creating jinn and mankind is for Allāh to put them to the test with commands and prohibitions and to put them to the test with other matters, deemed things that [could] divert [them] from obedience to Allāh.

So whoever gets affected by [these] diversions and leaves off worship will be among the [ultimate] losers. And whoever occupies himself with worship and takes from the [life of this] world that which aids him in [achieving] his objective will be among the saved ones.
