Al-Albānī: Where Is It Better for Women to Pray Tarāwīḥ?

Shaykh

Shaikh Muḥammad Naṣir Al-Dīn Al-Albānī, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

The Tarāwīḥ [prayer] is a stressed Sunnah, not an obligation, neither upon women nor upon men. However, it is among [those] sunnah [prayers] whose rulings differ from other sunnahs—indeed, from even obligatory prayers—because the best [place] for a woman’s prayers [for those] is her home.

As for the Tarāwīḥ prayer, it has something unique to it: women also attend the Tarāwīḥ prayer [in the mosques]. This has its closest likeness in the two ʿĪd prayers, while noting that the ruling of the two ʿĪd prayers differs from the ruling of Tarāwīḥ with respect to women, since the ruling of the two ʿĪd prayers is that they are obligatory upon every woman of sound mind who has reached the age of womanhood in Islam.

As for Tarāwīḥ, it is not [an] obligatory [prayer], but it is recommended for women to attend the mosques of the Muslims for [this] night prayer of Ramaḍān, as opposed to the obligatory prayers—let alone [other] voluntary prayers—[in which case] their homes are better for them.
