Al-Albānī: When Is It OK to Seek a Religious Opinion from Our Own Hearts?

Shaykh

Questioner: When is it permissible for a Muslim to seek an opinion about a religious matter from himself or his own heart?

Shaikh Al-Albānī: When an issue has become problematic for him after his either having asked people of knowledge–if he [himself] were not from among them–or after his having studied the issue as much as he were capable of and able to; then after that, [if] the issue still remained unresolved and the correct [opinion] still unclear to him, at that time, he seeks an opinion about the matter from his own heart.
