A Simplified Explanation of Sūrah Al-Ṭāriq from Al-Tafsīr Al-Muyassar

Al-Ṭāriq
Verse 1
Allāh, All-Perfect is He, swore by the sky and the star that comes at night.
Verse 2
And what will make you realize how tremendous this star is?
Verse 3
It is the luminous star that shines brightly.
Verse 4
There is not a single soul except that an angel has been assigned to it to watch over it, preserving its [record of] deeds for it—for it to be held to account for them on the Day of Resurrection.
Verse 5
Then let every person who denies Resurrection consider what he was created from. Let him know that recreating Man is not harder than creating him the first time.
Verse 6
He was created from seminal fluid poured out rapidly into a womb…
Verse 7
…[the fluid] coming out between a man’s backbone and a woman’s chest.
Verse 8
Indeed, the One who created Mankind from this fluid is certainly able to bring him back to life after death.
Verse 9
On the Day the reality of all things that had been hidden [from others] will become known with regard to what they had been hiding, and what was righteous from [that] will become clear and distinct from what was corrupt.
Verse 10
Then Man will have no power to defend himself, and he will have no one to come to his aid to defend him against Allāh’s punishment.
Verse 11
By the sky with its recurring rains;
Verse 12
by the Earth with splits [on its surface] from plants breaking through—
Verse 13
indeed the Qurʾān is most certainly a decisive word [dividing] truth and falsehood…
Verse 14
and it is not [something of] play, lacking substance.
It is not allowed for [any] created being to swear by other than Allāh; otherwise, he will have committed the [unforgivable sin of] shirk, [attributing or directing anything that is only for Allāh to other than Him].
Verse 15
Indeed, those who have rejected the truth of the Messenger ﷺ and the Qurʾān are engaged in plotting and planning in order to drive away the truth with their plots and to support falsehood;
Verse 16
and I am laying a plot for the truth to overcome and become manifest, despite the disbelievers hating [that].
Verse 17
So do not be hasty against them, O Messenger, by asking for punishment to come down upon them; rather, give them time and leave them for later, and you will see what comes down upon them of torment, penalty, punishment, and ruin.
